For all users
cd /usr/share
mkdir newfonts
then copy all fonts to this new folder (you might need to temporarily set chmod 777 newfonts)
After the new fonts are copied:
# chmod 0555 newfonts
# chmod 0444 newfonts/*
For a single user
use: ~/.local/share/fonts/
